Ritual of Banishment is the debut demo by Raw Black metal / Ambient project Xhaalgûhwrėst.
One of a small number of projects on Canadian label Lichtung Tapes, the line up, location and any information about this project remains unreleased.
A cursory look on Discogs suggests that the material this label puts out is currently trending among the corpse-painted; likely because most tapes are 20-40 copies, and there is more in common with Black Metal fanatics and Pokémon than most people realise (gotta collect them all...)
Without further digression, this is a tape I ripped recently for the blog, mainly I wanted a bit more metal on here, but also to mitigate the prospects of people having to sell their testicles for a copy of this, as sniping and reselling is a massive issue.
How does Xhaalgûhwrėst sound? Like its name, actually. It's a chaotic oration in the form of an audial assault. This demo is entirely ambient, but the Black metal tag is used as the later releases appear to venture into this particular trope. It's fair to call this "Death Industrial", as it reminds me substantially more of various recordings from artists such as Propergol and the Cold Spring label roster than it does anything in the metal scene.
A Rose remains a Rose though, and whether or not this fits into it's supposed categorization, it's still an unusual and hard-to-find tape that deserves to be heard.
